Though I still typically identify as a “freelance journalist”, lately I’ve grown increasingly involved in the operations at Flotsam+Fork, the online retail concern that my wife, Adrianna, founded in 2013. It took me a while to completely grasp her vision for the site, and then a little longer to find a useful role in the company. For a long time, that mostly meant making boxes and packing orders. Last fall, I took on a new duty and started writing and designing the email marketing campaigns we distribute to the Flotsam+Fork mailing list. My main goal in doing so was making sure our customers are regularly (and pleasantly) alerted to the extremely good shit Adrianna brings to the shop. With a growing list, a great open rate, and nice number of sales conversions from email—I can honestly say something’s working!
